~ Week before (planning phase)
- Clothing – pick 2–3 outfits. Ensure they are clean, well-fitted, and align with your brand identity.
- Hair & Grooming – get your haircut or beard trim now so it has a few days to settle into a natural look.
- Skincare – drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin. Pay attention to your hands and nails, as they often appear in lifestyle shots.
- The Mirror Test – practice a few smiles and “power poses” in front of a mirror to see which angles you prefer.
Day before (final touch)
- Ironing – steam or iron every garment. High-resolution cameras pick up every wrinkle.
- Lint Roller – give dark blazers a final pass to remove dust, lint, or pet hair.
- Props – pack your laptop, a high-quality notebook, glasses (preferably with non-reflective coating), or industry-specific tools.
- Rest – aim for a full night’s sleep to avoid under-eye circles and ensure you feel energized.
Day of a session
- Moisturize – use a light, matte moisturizer. Avoid oily products that might cause unwanted shine under studio lights.
- Shaving – for a clean-shaven look, shave at least 2 hours before the shoot to allow any redness or irritation to subside.
- Punctuality – plan to arrive 15 minutes early to settle in, check your hair, and “catch your breath.”
Emergency kit
- Hairbrush/comb and hairspray.
- Mattifying powder or blotting papers (essential for both men and women to cut shine).
- Water and a light, mess-free snack.
- A spare shirt or tie (just in case of spills).
- Comfortable shoes for moving between setups or locations.
